Honda Civic Type R wins two awards at the prestigious 2022 TopGear.com Awards as it picks up both ‘Hot Hatch of the Year’ and the top spot; ‘Car of the Year’
• The industry accolades are received during its 25th year anniversary of the Civic wearing the crimson Type R badge
• Honda Civic Type R pricing confirmed, with order banks now openThe all-new Honda Civic Type R has been named ‘Car of the Year 2022’ as well as ‘Hot ‘Hatch of the Year’ at the legendary annual TopGear.com Awards.
Over six generations, the formula for Honda’s Civic Type R has evolved to deliver the ultimate front engine, front wheel drive performance hatchback to customers. One that can comfortably handle the daily commute from Monday to Friday, before tackling the circuit at weekends. Being awarded these industry accolades reflects that the latest variant is the performance halo of the Honda range. This double win of awards embodies the key characteristics that the Honda Civic Type R is so highly regarded for.
Chris Harris, BBC Top Gear Presenter commented: “I’m so happy that Honda has had the balls to make a new hot hatch, nobody seems to want to build them anymore, but I’ve been reminded just how well suited this type of car is to UK roads. I love the nods to its heritage; the red Alcantara, the little metal gearlever, it’s a car that makes me smile. It’s the right size; in a world where everything is excessive and overpowered it just hits the spot, and when I drove it at Dunsfold, I found myself behaving badly and that’s what really matters.”
Rebecca Adamson, Head of Automobile at Honda UK commented: “We are thrilled that Top Gear have awarded the Civic Type R both Hot Hatch and overall Car of the Year Award at their sought–after annual awards. The team at Honda have worked tirelessly to deliver a car that further evolves, matures, and refines technologies that have been developed over six generations. The result is that the latest generation is the fastest and most capable Civic Type R ever. To be awarded the top spot against tough competition proves that this car is truly living up to its expectations and after 25 years, is just as popular as ever.”
Only one engine option is available in the Type R – a 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine – the strongest, most powerful VTEC Turbo ever produced by Honda.
The latest wins follow previous success as the Civic Type R was named The Sunday Times Legend Car of the Year at the Motor Awards 2022, making it a hat trick. Order books for the all-new Honda Civic Type R are open today, 30 November 2022, with first deliveries expected in Europe from January.
